HACKENSACK -- The city received a $695,000 state grant to pay for improvements at Johnson Park.

"This grant will support our vision of dramatically improving Hackensack's recreation facilities and expanding access to these wonderful programs to more of our city's children," Mayor John Labrosse said in a prepared statement.

The grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection will fund a kayak launch and dock, a boat ramp and a passive recreation area along the riverbank.

The city will also build a 110-spot parking lot with the money, and an entrance to the planned Sports Dome complex. The dome would be built on the northern soccer field. The dome would include one large turf field that would then be able to be split into four smaller fields. …
