Mitchell Is New VP of Advertising

Michelle Mitchell has been named vice president of advertising at the Herald-Tribune Media Group.

Mitchell, who earlier worked at the Herald-Tribune for 15 years, was most recently senior advertising manager at the Tampa Bay Times.

She replaces Shari Brickley, who is retiring after more than 40 years in the newspaper business.

Mitchell, with 25 years of experience, is responsible for all print and digital sales and marketing at the Herald-Tribune Media Group. She started her new role on Monday.

"We are very excited to welcome Michelle back to the team," Herald-Tribune publisher Patrick Dorsey said. "Michelle is very well known and respected among her industry peers as a results-oriented sales leader. She brings a strong knowledge of all aspects of advertising and a long history of generating success for her clients. Michelle has lived in Sarasota for many years and has deep roots in our community, so she should really hit the ground running."

Mitchell started her career with the Herald-Tribune in 1991 after

earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of South Florida. She worked with local, major and national accounts and classified advertising. She spent four years as advertising manager at the Manatee Herald-Tribune and was the classified advertising manager working with clients in the automotive and real estate industry when she left in 2006 to join the senior leadership team at the St. Petersburg Times, now the Tampa Bay Times.

At the Times, she was a part of the transformation of both the website and a redesign of the overall newspaper product. She also worked as part of the acquisition team when the company acquired the Tampa Tribune.

"I am very optimistic about the future of the newspaper industry," Mitchell said. "We continue to evolve in the way we bring consumers trusted news and information. …
