'Paterson' Extends Its Run at City's Only Movie Theater

PATERSON -- After a strong showing at the box office, the movie "Paterson" is going to play for another week in the city for which it is named.

The Fabian 8 Cinema sold 40 percent more tickets for "Paterson" than for any other movie last weekend, easily surpassing the second-grossing film, "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," said Tom Arnold, the theater's general manager.

"It exceeded our expectations," Arnold said. "It doubled what I was expecting."

The critically acclaimed independent film, directed by Jim Jarmusch, was filmed in Paterson, and its dialogue touches on the city's history and celebrities. The movie, which stars Adam Driver as a bus driver and amateur poet, played at select theaters around the country after making its premiere for general audiences in December.
