Illinois Man Guilty in a Dozen Downtown St. Louis Robberies

ST. LOUIS * A jury here Thursday night found an Illinois man guilty in a dozen robberies in downtown St. Louis in late 2015.

Jurors found Roy D. Brown, 28, of 5900 block of Hallows Avenue in Washington Park, guilty on 12 counts of robbery and one count of resisting arrest in a string of downtown robberies Nov. 27 through Dec. 23, 2015. The jury acquitted him of two other counts of robbery.

Brown was accused of acting with a group to snatch purses and wallets from people, some of whom were targeted after leaving downtown bars, restaurants and hotels.

In some cases, police said, he struck his victims, even dragging one woman down the street by her purse strap. In that incident, Brown threatened to shoot someone who tried to help the woman. …
