Grand Jury Indicts 3 Suspects in Cocaine, Opiate Conspiracy

A federal grand jury has indicted the reputed leader of a large opiate and cocaine ring in Pittsburgh, his wife and one of their associates.

Richard Wright, 74, and his wife, Michele Connell, 47, who live on Wenzell Avenue in Beechview, and Walter Amman III, 66, of Elmbank Street in Brookline, are charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to launder the proceeds through real estate and vehicle purchases.

The grand jury handed up the indictment Tuesday in U.S. District Court following an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The case came to public light in December after federal prosecutors moved to forfeit a property in Daytona Beach, Fla. …
