Pair of Weather Systems Projected to Bring Rain, Snow over Next Few Days

With an expected whiplash of weather coming in the next few days, it appears as if the Groundhog Day predictions are playing tug of war with North Jersey.

Last week Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter while Staten Island Chuck couldn't find his shadow, forecasting an early spring. The expected roller-coaster of weather in the next few days seems to indicate Mother Nature can't seem to decide which groundhog is right.

Two separate weather systems are expected to move through the area bringing rain, and potentially record warmth followed by freezing temperatures and ultimately up to 6 inches of snow.

Rain marked Tuesday's weather, with temperatures approaching 50 degrees. The rain is expected to extend into the night and perhaps the early morning hours of Wednesday, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. …
