City Ethics Board Won't Probe Mayor's Fundraising

Pittsburgh's Ethics Hearing Board will not probe the fundraising activities of city Chief of Staff Kevin Acklin on behalf of Mayor Bill Peduto, according to a letter from that panel released Tuesday.

Councilwoman Darlene Harris had asked the board to investigate the implications of a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story about Mr. Acklin's calls seeking donations for Mr. Peduto's campaign. Ms. Harris' seven-line letter to the board, dated Jan. 9, noted Mr. Acklin's efforts to "turn developers into donors" and his role as chair of the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

Three members of the board reviewed Ms. Harris' submission, according to a letter by its executive manager, Linda A. King, to Mr. Peduto. They found no probable cause that a violation of the Ethics Code occurred, and closed the matter. …
