I was encouraged to see the Post-Gazette's reporting and editorial regarding the January 2017 federal jobs report, which showed a "healthy 227,000" new jobs created in the U.S. for the month - more continued, record-breaking progress through the very last (partial) reporting month for President Barack Obama. I am also excited, as a Pittsburgh small business owner, to be able to claim that two of those new jobs were created by the company that my partner and I have been proud to manage for over a dozen years here in the City of Champions. We know that we all have skin in the game when it comes to jobs creation.

I am also in agreement with the editorial board's somewhat sober assessment (Feb. 4) that this level of reported jobs creation was good, but not "great" and I'm reminded of the campaign promise of our sitting president that his policies would result in the creation of 45 million new jobs (new jobs, not simply "saved" jobs) over the next 10 years. …
