Solar Workforce Grew 26% in 2016

Florida added 1,700 solar-industry jobs in 2016, a 26 percent increase, according to a national non-profit that promotes solar power.

The Solar Foundation said its "National Solar Jobs Census 2016" found 8,260 solar-industry workers in the state, up from 6,560 in 2015.

That ranked the Sunshine State fifth in the nation for the number of solar jobs. Ahead of Florida were California, Massachusetts, Texas and Nevada.

The report also found that "the American solar workforce grew at a historic pace in 2016, in a year when one out of every 50 new U.S. jobs was in the solar industry."

Nationally, the solar workforce grew by 51,000 jobs to 260,077. The pace of growth was 25 percent when compared with 2015, the largest annual growth rate since the organization began its census in 2010. …
