Manchin needs to protect W.Va. public land


Sen. Joe Manchin has always made it a priority to reach across the aisle and work with Republicans on divisive issues, but many of his recent actions are troubling. As the author of a recent Gazette- Mail article mentions, giving no opposition to Sen. Jeff Sessions' appointment is repulsive, considering that Joe supposedly aligns with values of the Democratic Party.

There is one issue lurking in the background this year that could offer him redemption, however.

Our public lands are being threatened by attacks on the Wilderness Act and Antiquities Act, aimed at weakening protection for our national public lands and limiting future designations.

West Virginia's landscape is something that sets the state apart, and we cannot allow the federal government to compromise our public lands and the often-undervalued tourism industry that they foster. …
