WVU's Smith Named Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week

Charleston native and former George Washington High prep state champion Jake Smith has been named Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Smith, a senior ranked No. 5 in the country at 197-pounds, defeated wrestlers from South Dakota State and Iowa State for the Mountaineers last week. His win against ISU's Marcus Harrington helped pave the way for WVU's first-ever Big 12 dual win.

Smith shares the award with Oklahoma State's Chandler Rogers.

WVU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: West Virginia University women's basketball standout Tynice Martin was named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week.

Martin, a sophomore guard and Atlanta native, averaged 32.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in two games that saw the Mountaineers go 1-1.

She is the first WVU women's basketball player since 2005 to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games when Meg Bulger accomplished the feat. …
