Tattoo Shop Owner Guilty of Manslaughter

A McKeesport man was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter Wednesday for a beating death in 2015.

Dustin Rice, 42, will be sentenced April 27 by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski.

According to the prosecution, Rice, who had been drinking and using cocaine and marijuana, was asleep inside his City Tattoo shop on Walnut Street in McKeesport about 1 a.m. July 18 when, he claimed, Dennis Pence, 54, broke in and struck him in the head with a cane.

The two men then engaged in what Rice characterized as sword fighting, which spilled out onto the street. The confrontation ended about a block away in the yard of a house on 24th Street.

A neighbor testified that he saw Pence pounding on a door yelling for help when Rice struck him with a large staff, killing him. …
