I read Brian O'Neill's Feb. 5 column ("The Pittsburgh Time Machine, Block By Block") with casual interest, and as he advised, I was prepared to waste an hour on the old maps. But something weird happened and that time machine effect took hold in a way I hadn't anticipated.

After clicking on my current address and my address as a teenager and getting nothing, I thought I'd click on my childhood address, the one where I lived until I was 10. The 100-year-old map was interesting, but then I found 1967 and when I clicked on it, something strange happened.

I was 7 that year, and there in black-and-white aerial photography was my childhood. In "real" time. I know what was going on in that picture because back then we all had our routines. In that aerial shot, I saw it all (at least in my mind) in an instant. …
