Article excerpt

Amid all of the reporting regarding Donald Trump's rambling and incoherent statements and news conferences, the press is failing to adequately report Trump actions that pave the way for future threats to the lives of American citizens.

He has undone Barack Obama's executive order to keep handguns out of the hands of about 75,000 adults who are mentally disabled, which was enacted following the Sandy Hook massacre.

Trump is also overriding an Obama executive order to permit mining companies to pollute rivers and streams, endangering not only the environment, but also the lives of people who already are vulnerable and voiceless. It is clear that these are the acts of someone detached from the mainstream and someone who panders more to the influence of lobbyists than to the welfare of his fellow citizens.

So much for draining the swamp.

Mahwah, Feb. 17 Planned Parenthood must be defunded

Your editorial support for Planned Parenthood does not deal with the core issue, which is why should government pay a corporate entity more than a million dollars a day every single day of the year. Especially when that entity is involved in procedures that some believe to be immoral. Of course, Planned Parenthood is going to fight tooth and nail to keep the spigot turned on. Ask yourself how Planned Parenthood got so powerful in California that it actually has leverage over laws that protect Planned Parenthood in what some think is an unconstitutional manner.

Public money turned Planned Parenthood into the juggernaut it is, and now Planned Parenthood is fighting mad because it sees the handwriting on the wall. The days of appeasement may well be over.

It will be a bloody and bruising fight to oust this biggest and meanest of the hogs at the public trough, but it can -- and must -- be done.
