HASBROUCK HEIGHTS - The borough is correcting a typo in the towing fees ordinance to reflect a $100 error.

The borough code currently reads $45 for weekend and nighttime hour tow fees, when in actuality it should read $145. The code was amended five years ago and the "1" was left out of the fee in the ordinance, Police Chief Michael Colaneri said.

Current towing fees will remain at $100 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays. Road service "at any other time," which includes weekends and nighttime hours, will technically increase from $45 to $145 to correct the typo.

People have been paying the $145 since December 2011, however, and no one has ever challenged the fee, the police chief said.

Colaneri said a traffic officer noticed the typo when he read the borough code.

"The towing company gets a $100 fee to come out during the day, and after hours they will continue to get $145," Colaneri said. …
