COFFEE HOUSE

SARASOTA -- The Reserve, a trendy new coffee house, bookstore and soon-to-be marketplace, arrives in the area with a lot of history.

It encompasses three homes that, according to manager Bethany Simmons, were once on the Charles Ringling estate grounds. The Reserve includes a former boarding house for circus performers and another building said to have been a bordello after the buildings were moved in the 1930s and '40s to their current site on North Tamiami Trail.

"This is where history and tradition collide with the present," Simmons said. "We're creating a village-like concept for urban gatherings."

The quaint redwood residences have the original color exterior and trim, and the owners, Kim Cressell and Jessica Simmons, have updated the interior with charcoal paint, wood bars, hand-crafted bookshelves and old-looking furnishings. …
