Board Oks Preliminary Budget, New Baseball Field Synthetic Turf

The Woodland Hills school board has approved a preliminary budget for 2017-18 that totals $96.92 million.

The tentative budget assumes the district will receive state approval for Act 1 exemptions, which would allow the district to raise the property tax rate above the state limit.

The administration and school board will continue reviewing the preliminary budget, which may be revised before final adoption.

Meetings on the budget will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6 and May 9 in the media center at Woodland Hills High School.

The seven board members present at the Feb. 15 meeting approved the preliminary budget, except Robert Tomasic, who had left the room before the vote.

The preliminary budget lists revenue as $63.78 million from local sources, $29.25 million from the state; and $2.73 million from federal sources.

State law requires school districts to have their budgets in place by June 30 each year.

The board also agreed to have FieldTurf USA, a Montreal-based firm, provide and install synthetic turf at the baseball/softball field at a cost of $82,000. …
