We Had Memorable Times Seeing Movies in 'Town'

"Pass the Popcorn: A New Movie Theater Would Boost Downtown" (Feb. 12 editorial) brought back memories of many years ago regarding the Downtown movie theaters. Mother was a movie fan as well as a big band fan. During my early years, she, my sister and I would board a bus from Cranberry or Zelienople to visit one of the big theaters Downtown. We would see not only the movie but also the big bands that were there periodically, performing at the close of the film a program of their latest hits. This was the 1940s; my sister and I were preteens. Mother didn't drive, so the bus was the way to go.

Had this not been in Downtown Pittsburgh, we would probably have missed it all, as public transportation from Zelienople and Criders Corners (Cranberry) was very limited and Pittsburgh was the only destination at that time (as I remember). …
