Study Will Assess Harrington Park School Safety Zone

HARRINGTON PARK -- The borough will study extending a safety zone near the Harrington Park Public School in response to concerns about speed limits near the school.

Officials hope to have the results by the Borough Council's meeting Monday. The Police Department is looking into whether the town can regulate signage or whether the county must be involved with any speed limit changes on Harriot Avenue, because it is a county road, officials said.

Harriot Avenue is 35 mph except for an area around the school where it drops to 25 mph during the school day, Maalouf said. One question the study would address is how far the zone can be extended from the school.

"The borough may have some leeway with how to designate the school zone," but a determination is needed before the town makes a decision, Police Chief Albert Maalouf said. …
