Troopers target aggressive drivers

The Florida Highway Patrol announced it is starting a program targeting aggressive car and truck drivers.

As part of the program, which began Friday and runs through March 9, troopers will be looking for car and truck drivers who display aggressive driving behaviors like following too closely, speeding and unsafe lane changes, according to a news release.

"Saving lives on Florida's roadways is FHP's No. 1 priority," Col. Gene Spaulding, the FHP director, said in the release. "We can reduce crashes if we all share the road safely, avoid aggressive driving behaviors and exercise additional caution when driving near larger vehicles."

Cars are at a serious disadvantage if they are involved in a crash with a large commercial truck, which can be up to 80 feet long and weigh 20 tons. …
