SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING AWARD

This year's Oscars won't take place until Sunday, yet a former Sarasota County resident already has won an award from the Academy.

New College of Florida graduate Steven Rosenbluth won a "Scientific and Engineering Award" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards, hosted by Leslie Mann and John Cho.

Rosenbluth, president of Concept Overdrive Inc., developed the Overdrive motion control system. Films that have used this technology include "The Jungle Book" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," both of which are nominated for Best Visual Effects Oscars.

He graduated in 1991 from New College, where he made an award- winning stop-motion animated film and for his thesis project constructed a robotic puppet that would serve as a model for the Overdrive system. …
