Closter Trustees Discuss $19.2M Preliminary Budget Proposal

CLOSTER -- Taxes would increase by about $126 on the average house assessed at $675,000 under the preliminary 2017-2018 school board budget.

The $19.2 million budget, which would bring a 2.3-percent tax levy increase, was discussed by Business Administrator Peter Iappelli during Thursday's Board of Education meeting. Board members plan to introduce the budget at the March 16 meeting, with a public hearing held on a later date.

The total operating budget is $19,289,183, a 1.25-percent increase over last's year budget of $19,053,816. The 2.3-percent tax levy increase includes an additional 0.3 percent over the 2-percent tax cap due to enrollment adjustments that were approved by the state, Iappelli said. The tax increase is $4 less than last year's $130 tax hike.

Iappelli said the number may be adjusted before the budget's introduction to reflect higher property values in the borough. …
