New Moore Dealership to Sell Korean Autos / the Hyundai

Oklahoma City automobile dealer Bob Moore will have the first dealership in Oklahoma for a Korean compact car, the Hyunda i, which will be available for the first time in the U.S. this year, according to Mike Smith, general manager at Bob Moore Cadillac.

Smith said Hyundai is the number one vehicle in Canada, beating Toyota and other Japanese exports.

Moore, who also owns Bob Moore Cadillac, 400 N. Walker Ave., is one of only a few dealers in the nation who will initially be franchised to sell the Korean import.

According to Mickey Clagg, who handles many real estate transactions for Moore, Bob Moore Hyundai will be located on a total of 3.1 acres. A portion of the land will front the Northwest Expressway.

The dealership will be located just west of the seven-acre site at the intersection of Northwest Expressway and Glade Ave. which is planned as the new home of Town & Country Ford, currently locatedat 400 W. Britton Rd.

In the first year of the dealership, Moore will sell Hyundai's Excel model, which will have a list price of somewhere between $5,500 and $6,000. Moore's initial inventory will be some where between100 and 150 vehicles.

At a later date, Moore hopes to have another Hyundai model known as the Stellar available on the lot, as well as a selection of vans and trucks made by the Korean firm.

Smith said he was impressed by the Hyundai when he went to Canada last October to make an inspection of the vehicles.

Hyundai is projecting that the sale of their automobiles in the United States will top their sales in Canada.

Smith says the high quality of the Korean craftsmanship as well as the lower price of the vehicles will make Hyundai popular in Oklahoma City.

"I think it's going to be one of the best selling cars available," said Smith, "The price will have a lot to do with the sales, but I think people will be interested in the quality of the car. …
