Permits Up 4th Month in Row; March Home Sales Jump 36 Percent / Single-Family Permits Tops since 322 Issued Last August

Article excerpt

Single-family building permits in the Central Oklahoma area were up for the fourth consecutive month during March, with 28 6 permits issued, according to figures released Thursday by the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association.

The March total also was the highest number since August 1985 when there were a total of 322 permits issued in the 14-city area, which includes Oklahoma City, Nichols Hills, Warr Acres, Bethany, Midwest City, Del City, The Village, Edmond, Yukon, Moore, Mustang, Norman, Choctaw and El Reno, as well as rural Oklahoma County.

Figures for both Warr Acres and Choctaw were unavailable, however.

Earl Rooms, 1986 president of the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association, said the March single-family figures reflect a natural increase from the winter months, which he said are normally "notoriously" low.

However, Rooms noted a slight change which has been occurring in the local building industry since the first of the year. …
