Article excerpt

Industry may begin to smell sweeter in Oklahoma City thanks to an announcement by Together Cosmetics, Ltd.

The local fragrance and cosmetic company will create 110 to 130 new jobs in the area with sales and production of its new perfume line, "Together," according to Lee O. Hotze, 58-year-old president of the privately-held company.

The national sales office, operated by Hotze, will employ some 80 to 90 personnel, while production facilities will put another 30 to 40 persons to work, Hotze told The Journal Record.

First year sales projections are $9 million, he said.

Production for test marketing has been conducted in Dallas by Don Smothers, perfumer/chemist for the company. It will then be moved to probably the Meridian Ave./Int. Hwy. 40 area, Hotze said, witha scheduled start-up date of mid-August.

The production portion of the venture will be owned by 47-year-old Smothers, Hotze said.

At that point, the entire project will have cost some $800,000, Hotze indicated.

Hotze said existing facilities would be utilized for the manufacturing site. He estimated the needs of the company to be 25,000 square feet for warehouse and production facilities.

"Around $300,000" will be invested in equipment to produce the perfume and cologne.

Hotze, who will promote the product, has named "Mr. and Ms. Together," local models who will help advertise the products:

- Carol Baker will serve as the female model. Baker, a finance graduate from Central State University, will also help in the company's finance department.

- Her male contemporary will be Tommy Chesebro, who is currently working on a masters in drama and music at Oklahoma City University.

Hotze, who was involved from 1975 to 1977 with Psychic Scents Inc., a Texas corporation involving nationally-known psychic Jeanne Dixon, said he met Smothers, a perfumer for Revlon for 12 years, while working with the Texas company.

Smothers later went to private labels for himself, specializing in aloe vera skin care products. …
