City Boat Club Gets OK on Lease at Lake Hefner / for Festival Events

Article excerpt

The Oklahoma City Boat Club Inc. received approval Tuesday from the Oklahoma City Council to lease an area of land at Lake Hefner and will pump about $50,000 in improvements into the area to make the location ready for the yachting events of the U.S. Olympic Festival to be held in Oklahoma City in 1989.

The 10-year lease, approved in December by the Oklahoma City Municipal Improvement Authority, is for $400 the first year. Additional years will factor in increases in the Consumer Price Index.

The Oklahoma City Boat Club has leased a portion of the Lake Hefner reservation for boating, boat docking and other club activities since 1967.

White said buildings on site will be renovated by the boat club, and that the use potential of the lake will be improved after the Olympic Festival.

Under terms of the lease agreement, the boat club has exclusive control of all existing facilities and facilities constructed during the length of the lease. The boat club will be responsible for maintenance, operation and repair of facilities during the lease. The boat club may build additional structures during the term of the lease at no cost to the city, but the city will have the option to buy those facilities at any time during the term of the contract.

In other action:

- The council approved amending a lease agreement on office and space at 609 W. Sheridan Ave. which is utilized by the city's Department of Housing and Community Services.

The city executed a one-year lease agreement with Pace Group Inc. on July 1, 1986, to use the 11,625-square-foot office building and adjoining parking lot for monthly lease payments of $11,708. …
