Willow View Hospital has started a clinical research center and named Dr. Vladimir Pishkin as director, it was announced Monday.

Pishkin, who is joining Willow View from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Oklahoma City, said his work at Willow View as clinical research director will start April 1.

The 93-bed psychiatric hospital, located at 2601 N. Spencer Rd., will put major emphasis upon research in adolescent psychiatry, according to Dr. Jay T. Shurley, Willow View's medical director. "Most clinical trials research done elsewhere has focused on the treatment of the adult patient," he said.

Willow View treats both adults and adolescent patients in a private hospital setting.

The facility has just finished additions to three wings, costing $450,000, to enhance treatment programs for psychiatric disorders peculiar to adolescent patients.

Pishkin will continue in his role as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Psychology. He also will keep his post as professor of psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.

"As a general rule, only larger and mostly public hospitals have research centers," Pishkin said. …
