$4 Million Chemical Treatment Center Proposed in Norman/adjacent to Hospital

Article excerpt

A $4 million residential chemical substance treatment center has been proposed for an area adjacent to the Norman Regional Hospital.

A partnership between Hospital Management Associates of Oklahoma City and Comprehensive Care Corp. of Irvine, Calif. has applied for a certificate of need to build the facility.

The Oklahoma Health Planning Commission is to consider that application, along with seven others from throughout the state March 25.

Darrell Carter, director of supplemental services for CompCare, said construction could start on the facility within weeks of receiving the certificate. It will be called Twelve Point Ridge.

If approved, the target date for opening is June 1988.

Carter said the group, called Twelve Point Ridge Inc., plans a 50-bed facility which will employ nearly 60 people when the patient census reaches capacity.

The staff will be hired from the Norman and Oklahoma City areas, he said.

"The talent and resources are there to draw from and we intend to tap it," he said.

Carter said the Twelve Point Ridge will be a free-standing facility adjacent to the Norman hospital, but the hospital will not be connected with the facility other than to lease the land.

"We wanted to be adjacent to a hospital so that its services and equipment could be utilized to complement the equipment and services of Twelve Point Ridge," he said.

The staff will be multi-disciplinary, including a 24-hour nursing service, diagnostic evaluation unit, therapists and counsellors.

"We plan on a full-service faility which will help treat people with a chemical substance dependency," he said. …
