State Rig Count Falls to 129; National Count Down to 767

HOUSTON - The Oklahoma active drilling rig count fell for the third time in four weeks declining to 129 for the week ended May 8, the International Association of Drilling Contractors of Houston reported Monday.

The rig count for the week was down 2.27 percent from 132 the previous and down 14 percent from 150 rigs for the week ended April 10.

The rig count for the state was the lowest for the week since it was 119 March 27.

The same week in 1986 recorded 130 active rigs, one more than the current count, while the same week in 1985 recorded 254 active rigs, 49.2 percent more.

The U.S. count, which had been higher for three consecutive weeks, fell 1.6 percent to 767 from 780 the previous week.

Compared to the same week in 1986, when 809 rigs were operating, the current week is down by 5.19 percent. A comparison to the same week in 1985, when 1,901 rigs were operating, reveals the current week is down by 59. …
