Pioneer Telephone Planning to Expand Operator Services

KINGFISHER - Plans to improve and expand operator services by June 26 for all of its 58 telephone exchanges were announced Friday by Pioneer Telephone Cooperative Inc. of Kingfisher.

"We have now worked out an arrangement with Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T which will allow us to serve all of our cooperative's customers with operator services through our Kingfisher office," said Johnnie Ruhl, the cooperative's general manager.

Rhul added that he felt the changes will allow the cooperative to provide more uniform services to all of their customers because, while Pioneer has been providing operator services for a number of years, they did not provide services to all of their telephone exchanges.

"The biggest difference" with the new system, Rhul said, "will be in the way our customers use the operator to dial outside the 405 area code."

Pioneer customers dialing "0" in the future will reach a Pioneer operator, who will assist them in making calls within the 405 area code with the exception of calls made to the Panhandle. …
