Texas Firm Plans Manufacturing Plant in Lawton

LAWTON - The Meakings Group, a Texas-based manufacturer of MFlex rubber decking, has selected Lawton as the central distribution point for nationwide sales, Gov. Henry Bellmon said Thursday.

Meakings will open a manufacturing and distribution plant with fewer than 10 employees, but is expected to employ more than 200 during the next five years.

Barry Meakings, owner of the firm, projected the company's sales from Lawton would grow to $120 million annually over that time.

Within the decade, Meakings also expects to add 75 to 100 distributors and expand into 12 countries. The Arlington, Texas, firm currently has two dealers in Oklahoma. Pattern Concrete of Tulsa and Allen Pool Service of Oklahoma City sell products under the label of Flexideck.

The Meakings Group plant will be located in a leased 40,000 square-foot building in the Lawton Industrial Park. Initial plans call for the expenditure of $180,000 to outfit the factory with grinders, mixers and bagging equipment. …
