Area Bankruptcy Filings Down for First Quarter

Bankruptcy filings for the first quarter of 1988 in Western Judicial District of Oklahoma totaled 2,093, the lowest for any quarter since the second quarter of 1986 when there were 1,863 cases filed, according to statistics compiled by the U.S. Bankruptcy Clerk in Oklahoma.

Filings for the first quarter were down 14.1 percent from 2,438 in the first quarter of 1987. The filings for the first quarter of 1987 are the second highest for any quarter at the local bankruptcy court trailing only the second quarter of 1987 when there were 2,445 filings.

For March, there were 771 cases filed, down 168 cases or 17.8 percent from 939 cases filed in March 1987. The 939 filings in March 1987 is the highest for any month at the bankruptcy court in Oklahoma City.

March was also the eighth time in nine months that filings at the court have been down from the same month of the previous year. For the nine months, there were 6,459 filings, down 6 percent from 6,869 from the year earlier period.

In the two other judicial districts in the state - the Northern District in Tulsa and the Eastern District in Okmulgee - bankruptcy filings were up in March 1988 when compared to March 1987. …
