U.S. Active Rig Count Tops since Week Ending April 1

HOUSTON - The active rig count in the United States rose to its highest level since the week ending April 1, while Oklahoma's remained unchanged from last week, according to the International Association of Drilling Contractors, based in Houston.

The U.S. drilling rig count for the week ended Monday rose to 926, up 0.5 percent from 921 the previous week. It was the highest total since April 1, when 941 active rigs were reported.

The U.S. active rig count was up 3.9 percent from 891 for the same week in 1987 and up 39.7 percent from 663 for the same week in 1986.

Oklahoma's active rig count was unchanged from last week at 129, but is the highest since April 25 when 131 rigs were reported.

The state's rig count was up 4.9 percent from 123 for the same week in 1987 and up 30.3 percent from 99 for the same week in 1986. …
