Active Drilling Rigs in Oklahoma Decline 122 from Previous Week

A drop of 3.3 percent to 118 active drilling rigs was reported for Oklahoma for the week ended Aug. 15, down from 122 reported the previous week, according to the International Association of Drilling Contractors of Houston.

Oklahoma's rig count was down 15.7 percent from 140 for the same period in 1987, but up 0.8 percent from the same period in 1986.

The U.S. active rig count was down 0.5 percent to 940 from 945 reported last week.

The U.S. count also was down 5.8 percent from 998 reported for the same period in 1987, but up 28 percent from 738 reported for the same period in 1986.

The active rig counts from other major oil producing states and the change from the previous week included:

- Texas, 263 active rigs, up four.

- Louisiana, 158 active rigs, down two.

- Alabama, 12 active rigs, down one.

- Alaska, 10 active rigs, down four. …
