Livestock Sales Facility Proposed at El Reno EL RENO - The co-owner of Barnhart Cattle Co. has filed a rezoning application with the city of El Reno seeking to turn a spot east of the city into a livestock sales facility.

The application wants to designate 137.71 acres as heavy industrial. The request says 40 acres would be used for a livestock sales yard and 12 acres for pens. There also would be a veterinary clinic, office building and arena for livestock sales.

The facility would be able to handle 7,500 cattle, as well as some sheep and hogs.

William S. Barnhart filed the application. Barnhart is an order buyer and co-owner of Barnhart Cattle Co.

The application site is south of the Canadian Valley Area Vo-Tech School.

George Hall, president of the Oklahoma National Stockyards Co. in Oklahoma City, said the livestock auction would be the first challenge to the Oklahoma City market, which averages 15,357 head of cattle a week.
