Conference to Kick Off Certified Cities Program A conference to kick off the Oklahoma Certified Cities program for community economic development is scheduled Oct. 12 in Oklahoma City.

The program is sponsored by the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. It focuses on community preparedness as a basis for economic development by providing communities with a tool to use in the process of self-analysis, organization and goal-setting, the chamber said.

During the kick-off, community leaders from across the state will learn how to initiate the program at a local level, and the benefits available to communities that become certified.

Gov. Henry Bellmon will attend the meeting, and the keynote speaker will be Harland Priddle, Kansas secretary of commerce.

Priddle will speak on the Kansas PRIDE program, a community and economic development program which served as a model for the development of Oklahoma Certified Cities, officials said.

For further information and conference registration, call the state chamber of commerce.
