Metro Builders to Move to New Locale

Metro Builders Supply of OKC Inc. is moving its Oklahoma City office from an industrial park near the Will Rogers World Airport to a location on W. Reno Ave. between Rockwell Ave. and Council Rd.

The 25-year-old wholesale appliance dealer has had one showroom, warehouse and office in Oklahoma City for the past six years. Other Metro Builders Supply Inc. showrooms, warehouses and offices are in Springdale and Little Rock, Ark.; in Joplin, Mo.; and in Tulsa, its headquarters.

Metro's offices are at 3714 S. Harmon Ave. near the airport, but the only Harmon in the telephone book is Harmon Drive in Midwest City, leading to a lot of confusion, said Charles Wilhite, assistant manager for Metro's Oklahoma City office.

"(Harmon) is a hard street to find. that's one reason why we're moving," Wilhite said. "Everybody knows where Reno (Avenue) is."

The new building also would provide more space for the company to grow, he said.

The Oklahoma City office has had at least a 5 to 7 percent increase in sales each year because new homes sales have increased and apartments are being renovated, Wilhite said. Apartments built between 1983 and 1985 are to the point that they need to be renovated and their appliances replaced, he said.

When Metro was started, its business came from new, single family homes, but in the past few years it has stretched to include growth from remodeling, he said.

The company has continued to sell the same 20 brands of appliances to the residential remodeler and builder, but has increased sales of its new appliances. …
