Kocb-TV New Name for Channel 34

Feature Editor The identity of Oklahoma City UHF Channel 34 was changed this week to KOCB-TV. The station also made changes in its programming.

The station, which has studios at 1501 NE 85th St., has been identified by the call letters KGMC-TV since going on the air Nov. 1, 1979.

"This is a new beginning. We're getting beyond everything of the past," said Ted Baze, the station's owner and general manager.

"We have changed our call letters. We have a new program schedule as good as any other independent station in the country. We have a new on-air look with all new graphics," said Baze.

"We have a lot of good things that we are doing. We are going to get more involved in the community. We are looking for more ways to do local programs of community interest.

"We have always carried OU basketball and football and we are going to look for more ways to get involved. We'll really be a local station, a truly locally owned company. We're going to put everything right back into the community. That is our intention - to get involved in community things whenever we can," Baze said.

"We're looking to get more involved, hopefully, with OSU and OU. We're exploring everything. We'd like to program presenting both sides of issues, because I think the news people, perhaps, sometimes do very one-sided presentations on things that are controversial," he said. …
