Wlaters Chooses White for Deputy Chief of Staff

By Lou Anne Wolfe Lynne Stewart White will serve Gov.-elect David Walters as deputy chief of staff, Walters said Friday.

White, who is married to Pete White, former Oklahoma City councilman and chairman of the Democratic Party of Oklahoma, headed the list of key staff positions released by Walters.

White is a self-employed government and community relations consultant. She was government and community affairs director for the Oklahoma State Board of Education from 1984 to 1986, and was government relations director for the Oklahoma Education Association from 1980 to 1984.

Steve Edmonds, who has worked for the Oklahoma State Office of Public Affairs for four years, will be Walters' cabinet liaison. A Bartlesville native, he was executive assistant to the department's director and chief administrator of central services.

Edmonds has worked in state government for 15 years, first for the Office of State Finance and later as senior administrative assistant to former Gov. George Nigh.

Cathy Weatherford, assistant insurance commissioner at the Oklahoma Insurance Department, will be Walters' executive assistant. A Miami, Okla., native, she has worked for the department for 14 years, first as executive secretary to the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner and later as a policy analyst.

Dana Brown, who was Rhonda Walters' personal assistant during the gubernatorial campaign, will be Walters' personal assistant.

A Marietta, Ga., native, Brown owned a local professional photography business named Creative Expressions from 1982 to 1989. She worked for Hewlett-Packard Corp., beginning in 1968 in Atlanta and in 1975 moved to Oklahoma as branch business manager for the Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Lawton regions. …
