Antonin Scalia Schedules Visit to OCU for March

U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia is scheduled to make an appearance at Oklahoma City University in March, according to school officials.

OCU President Jerald Walker made the announcement last week during a luncheon honoring Associate Justice Byron White.

White spoke at a special convocation of the OCU School of Law.

Scalia, a judicial conservative, was nominated in 1986 by President Reagan and confirmed by the Senate. . .

Sen. Don Nickles has recommended state Rep. Joe L. Heaton be named U.S. attorney for Oklahoma's Western District. Nickles also said he recommended that David E. O'Meilia be named U.S. attorney for the state's Northern District.

If approved, Heaton and O'Meilia would fill vacancies expected to be created by the departures of U.S. attorneys Tim Leonard and Tony Graham, who are being considered for federal judgeships.

Heaton, R-Oklahoma City, has served in the state House of Representatives since 1984 and has been minority leader the past three years. He has been a practicing attorney with the law firm of Fuller, Tubb & Pomeroy since 1977. He tentatively plans to resign as minority leader as of Nov. 1 so the Republican Caucus can move forward with a new leader and plan for the 1992 session.

O'Meilia, 40, of Tulsa, has served as assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District since 1986. He also worked four years as Tulsa County's assistant district attorney. . .

Anita Hill, an assistant professor of law at the University of Oklahoma, has been named a faculty administrative fellow in the Norman campus provost's office for 1991-92.

Hill, who joined the OU law faculty in 1986, teaches courses in contracts, commercial law and civil rights. A member of the OU Faculty Senate since 1987, she served on its executive committee during the 1990-91 academic year. In 1988-89, she was selected for an associates distinguished lectureship.

Prior to joining OU, Hill was a law faculty member at Oral Roberts University, special counsel to the chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and was in private law practice.

As a fellow, she primarily will be responsible for the revision of the Norman campus Faculty Handbook, related policy reviews and special projects. She will continue to teach courses in the College of Law. . .

American Security Group is currently engaged in negotiating major financial institutions for marketing the legal program through credit card, checking, installment loan and mortgage accounts.

Pre-Paid Legal Services is a legal expense plan company specializing in products which offer prepayment of certain legal expenses. . .
