Peters, Orza Take Posts with Oklahoma Academy

Roy Peters, state director of vocationalchnical education, Stillwater, has been named the 1992-1993 membership chair for the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals, it was announced Tuesday.

Vince Orza, Eateries Inc., Edmond, was named the 1992-1993 finance chair.

The academy has also named the regional membership vice presidents for the year. They are Gene Wallace, Muskogee, northeast region; Gary Martin, Enid, northwest region; Hershel Lamirand, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City region; Jim Cook, Durant, southeast region; Holley Urbanski, Altus, southwest region; and Ron Howell, Tulsa, Tulsa region.

The academy said its goal is to not only expand the membership across the state, but to bring people from different geographic regions and different political perspectives together to engage in thoughtful discussion and debate on issues affecting all Oklahomans: health care, economic development, education and the environment.

Throughout the year the academy holds at least six regional meetings, giving citizens the opportunity to learn more about state public policy issues and to voice their questions, concerns and possible solutions with other citizens and state leaders. In 1991, Gov. David Walters spoke at five regional meetings.

According to the academy, it is the state's only "thinknk _ catalyst" organization, striving to improve the quality of life for all Oklahomans through nonrtisan citizen action. It makes public policy recommendations based on independent research, analysis, and discussion with citizens and leaders across the state. Academy membership is comprised of people from different professional areas, political parties, and geographic regions.

Peters has been director of the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education since 1986. Peters joined the department in July 1984 as associate director. He serves on the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce Industry's Board of Directors, Oklahoma Teachers' Retirement System Board and the Graphic Arts Education Council of Oklahoma Board.

He is also currently serving as president of the National Association of State Directors of Vocationalchnical Education Consortium. He was appointed to serve on Task Force 2000, the State Education Coordinating Council, and the State Job Training Coordinating Council.

Orza is chairman and president of publicly held Eateries Inc., and its 31 Garfield's restaurants. Orza currently writes a commentary titled "Common Sense" for radio stations and newspapers across Oklahoma. Orza has worked for ABC-TV affiliate KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City.

Northeast Region Vice President Gene Wallace is district administrative assistant to U.S. Rep. Mike Synar, D-Okla. Wallace has supervised the Oklahoma congressional office in Muskogee since the first day of Synar's term beginning January 1979. …
