Building Pacts Up 28.6 Percent

Construction contracts in central Oklahoma had a positive March with all three categories showing increases over figures for the same month a year earlier, according to the Dodge Local Construction Potentials Bulletin.

Total value in central Oklahoma for all categories combined during March jumped 28.6 percent to $129.3 million from $100.5 million in March 1992. The construction value in March climbed 90.6 percent from contracts estimated at $67.8 million in February 1993.

Categories are residential, non-residential and non-building construction.

For the first three months of 1993, construction contracts were estimated at $246 million, a 10 percent increase from $223.9 million in the same period of 1992.

The Dodge Report is a monthly publication of the F.W. Dodge division of McGraw-Hill Information Services Co. of New York. It defines the 10-county metropolitan area as Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Oklahoma, Payne and Pottawatomie counties.

Building pacts statewide were up 16.9 percent in March to $254.8 million from $218 million in March 1992. Only the non-building category showed a decrease in its value. The total value for all three categories was a 49.3 percent increase from contracts estimated at $170.6 million in February.

During the first three months of 1993, contracts were at $544.1 million, a 6 percent drop from $581.5 million in the first three months of 1992.

In central Oklahoma, building contracts in all categories showed increases compared with figures from both last year and February.

During March, residential contracts were up 15.2 percent to $49.2 million from $42.7 million in March 1992. March's total increased 35.6 percent from $36.3 million in February. During the first three months of 1993, residential construction fell 3 percent to $110. …
