A 90.6 percent increase in net income to $122,000, or 4 cents per share, was reported Monday for the first fiscal quarter ended May 1 by Harold's Stores Inc. of Norman.

The net income for the quarter was up from $64,000, or 2 cents per share, for the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Sales for the quarter totaled $12.29 million, up 19.4 percent from $10.3 million.

Store sales for the quarter totaled $9.747 million, up 0.4 percent from $9.705 million. Catalog sales for the quarter totaled $1.05 million, up 77 percent from $591,000. Sales for stores in their first 12 months of operation totaled $1.5 million for the quarter.

Harold's is nearing completion on a 3,200-square-foot ladies' apparel store in One Pacific Place Shopping Center in Omaha, Neb. The store is expected to open in mid-June.

A new 4,000-square-foot ladies' apparel store in Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo., is scheduled to open in August. A 1,400-square-foot expansion of the ladies' apparel store in Highland Park Village in Dallas is expected to be completed by early summer and will increase the floor space for Harold's best performing location by 23 percent. …
