From Staff, Wire Reports

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents awarded contracts Wednesday on two major building projects at the Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and an exhibits master plan and design for the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman.

The three actions were among several taken by the regents during the board's monthly meeting in Norman.

The regents awarded a $4.55 million construction contract to Lippert Bros. Inc. of Oklahoma City for the Family Medicine Building on the campus in Oklahoma City. The regents also approved $456,000 for change orders during construction.

The 67,000-square-foot, two-story Family Medicine Building will be located west of the Oklahoma State Department of Health on NE 10th St. It will contain faculty and resident clinics, clinical support areas, seminar rooms and offices.

The Family Medicine Building has been on the university's plan for capital improvements since 1982, but it has been delayed because of a lack of money. Ground was broken for the project Tuesday.

Architectural and engineering fees totaling nearly $2.9 million were awarded to three firms for the Biomedical Research Center, a $45.1 million project. The building design and engineering work was done by HTB Inc., MBT Associates of San Francisco and AEI of Madison, Wis.

The firm of Gerard Hilferty and Associates of Athens, Ohio, will create the "key signature" exhibits needed for the opening of the museum and will be paid $187,500 for the work.

The fees for the exhibit designs will come from $450,000 allocated for that work.

Peter Terrell, assistant director of the museum, said "having architects and exhibit designers on board and working together" is critical to the efficient design of the museum on the Norman campus.

The first exhibits will use about 12,000 square feet of the museum space. …
