Robin Leach to Hosts Odyssey Orchestra Benefit

Article excerpt

Robin Leach, host of the long-running television series "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," will be in Oklahoma City Nov. 19 as the celebrity guest for Odyssey '93.

The black-tie benefit for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra will be at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club and will include drinks, dancing, dinner, gift boutiques and, of course, Leach sharing his secrets about the rich and famous. It should be a fun evening.

Reservations are $125 per person. Checks made out to Odyssey '93 may be mailed to the philharmonic office, 428 W. California Ave., Oklahoma City 73102. Chairing the party, which has the theme of "Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams," are Barbara Crabtree and Helen Reinheimer Mercer.

In previous years the Odyssey benefits, which are biennial, have been three days in length. This year, the committee decided to pack everything into one special night.

While Robin Leach will talk about his celebrities, guests at Odyssey will have the opportunity to see them. Well, actually, they'll be seeing look-alikes. Entertainment during the evening will be by Cavalcade of Stars, a group of singers and dancers who perform as celebrities such as Madonna, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner and Elton John. They even look like them through the use of costuming and makeup, and they're really impressive.

The boutiques will feature furs and fashions from Koslow's, Balliet's and Mr. Ooley's and jewelry from Valerie Naifeh of Samuel Gordon Jewelers. Full Circle Book Store will have Robin Leach's cookbook for sale that evening, too. The book is amusing to read because the recipes not only are by international celebrities but also because the vignettes about them are unique. Imagine listing Ivana Trump in the category of informal entertaining with her recipe for beef goulash or Armen Petrossian (of the caviar Petrossians) with a recipe for blintzes with caviar!

Cleverly, the categories of corporate sponsors for Odyssey '93 have as designations the names of types of caviar. In the Beluga Society are Boatmen's First National Bank of Oklahoma and Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Sias. In the Sevruga Society are Kerr McGee Corp., Liberty Bank and Trust Co. of Oklahoma City NA, Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co., Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and Stifel, Nicolaus Co.

A percentage of each sale price for anything in the boutiques that night will benefit Odyssey '93.

Odyssey's Diamond Circle guests will have a special treat. They'll come to the country club and transfer to limousines which will drive them to an exclusive party with Robin Leach at the home of Milah and Steve Lynn. When they arrive, they'll be photographed with Leach and later receive a copy of that picture. After the party, they'll return to the club via limousines in time for the gourmet dinner. …
