Oklahoma's active drilling rig count fell five for the week ended Friday to 113.

The state's rig count was 118 for the previous week and 145 for the same week in 1992. Oklahoma's average for December so far is 114 active drilling rigs.

The nation's oil and gas rig count this week was 883, up 15 from last week. This was a 5.5 percent drop from 935 rigs working the same week a year earlier, reported Baker Hughes Inc. of Houston.

Of the rigs running for the week, 445 were exploring for oil and 433 for gas. The 445 exploring for gas was above last week's total of 443 and a year ago of 381. Rigs drilling for natural gas were below last year's total of 528, a record high amount. The number of rigs drilling for natural gas for the week was 417.

Of the rigs drilling this week, 59 were horizontal rigs and 124 were directional rigs. …
