Chock Full o'Nuts Acquires Quikava

NEW YORK _ Chock full o'Nuts Corp. has concluded the acquisition of Quikava, a Boston-based specialty coffee retailer and franchisor with four operating units and a fifth under construction, it was announced Tuesday.

Quikava units are specially designed modular kiosks, which feature double-drive thru windows and cater to commuter traffic. The product menu consists of a full range of specialty coffees and other beverages, as well as baked goods, snacks, and other "finger foods" suitable for the commuter.

Chock, which owns Cain's Coffee Co. of Oklahoma City, has recently announced its entry into the retail specialty coffee market with the development of cafes and coffee bars in the Metropolitan New York marketplace, beginning in the Spring, said Marvin I. Haas, chief executive of Chock.

"The acquisition of the Quikava concept serves to further intensify our strategy of developing retail coffee units that focus on the most rapidly expanding component of the specialty coffee market," he said. "Our cafe operations will be developed in central business districts, while the Quikava system targets suburban commuter traffic patterns, a multi-faceted approach."

The new Quikava management team will consist of the founders of Quikava, Gerry Pelissier and Bob Small, who will be retained as executives. …
