ZymeTx Inc. is a new biotechnology company formed out of the research support of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, foundation officials announced this week.

The company has developed a new enzyme technology for the detection and treatment of viral diseases and is currently housed in laboratories at the foundation. The first project under development at ZymeTx is for the rapid detection of the influenza virus directly from a throat swab.

"This technology is quite simple and is expected to become a useful new tool in the office of primary care physicians," said Peter G. Livingston, ZymeTx president.

Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th St., ranks as one of the top independent nonprofit medical research institutions in the U.S. . . John P. Ellis, administrator of Deaconess Hospital, has been admitted to associate status in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

The college is a Chicago-based international society representing more than 27,000 health care executives. It offers comprehensive programs in credentialing, self-assessment, education, career counseling, publications, research and public policy. Its goal is to enhance excellence in health care management.

Associate status is the first level of professional achievement in the college. Associates must demonstrate their educational preparation and commitment to the health care field through an extensive application process.

Associate status provides a two-track system of affiliation with the college by providing the opportunity to be reappointed as an associate or to advance to diplomate status, which is achieved after meeting application requirements and passing extensive written and oral examinations. . . Dr. Robert C. "Shea" Bonhag has been named senior vice president at Southwest Medical Center.

Bonhag, an oral surgeon by training, has for the past 10 years helped academic medical centers and community hospitals improve operational performance. …
