OU Adds to Leadership Team for Architecture College Goals

To address new strategic goals, four individuals have been named to leadership roles in the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture.

The leadership team, under the direction of Dean Deborah Dalton, includes new appointees Michael J. Jordan, associate dean for academic affairs; Joel K. Dietrich, director of the Division of Architecture; Jerlene A. Reynolds, director of the Division of Interior Design; and Richard S. Marshment, director of the Division of Planning and Landscape Architecture.

Continuing on the leadership team are Harold Conner, director of Construction Science, and Robert Lawton Jones, director of the Urban Design Program at the University Center at Tulsa.

"Appointment of these talented faculty as administrative officers provides increased energy and fresh ideas as the College of Architecture enters a new era," said Dalton, who became dean of the college in January 1994.

Among Dalton's goals are to strengthen ties between students, faculty, alumni and professionals; foster understanding and cooperation between the five disciplines within the college; and emphasize responsibility to the community and the environment.

Jordan first came to OU in 1974, serving three years as an assistant professor of architecture. In 1977, he left to pursue teaching positions at Auburn University and, later, the University of Texas at Austin. Since returning to OU in 1990, Jordan has served as an associate professor, professor and acting associate dean.

Jordan is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the OU Regents' Award for Superior Teaching and outstanding teacher awards from the University of Texas and Auburn University. He has served on numerous campus boards and committees and as architecture coordinator of the Texas International Education Consortium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The author of many articles and papers, Jordan is co-editor of and contributor to "Foundations in Architecture: An Annotated Anthology of Beginning Design Projects. …
