Griffin's Firm to Provide Ad, Promotion Help

Article excerpt

A new approach is being taken by Jeff Griffin, founder of Up-Front Communications, a new Oklahoma City firm offering photojournalism services to small businesses.

Griffin has directed his business focus to helping small businesses get the most results for their buck in their promotion and advertising efforts.

"I have got a lot of advertising agency experience, and my wife and I own a small business in Oklahoma City. There are a lot of small businesses that can't afford an advertising agency, but could use some help," Griffin said.

"A lot of small business owners don't even know where to start promoting their businesses. I am available as a consultant. I can do as much or as little as anybody wants me to," Griffin said.

"A lot of small businesses either waste a good part of their money or they don't do anything. Any agency or public relations firm of any size has so much overhead or cost built in that it makes it impractical for small businesses."

Griffin quit a job in June on which he had served 15 years managing the paid advertising, publicity, public relations and trade show programs of Charles Machine Works Inc., Perry, manufacturer of Ditch Witch underground construction equipment.

"I was reading in a magazine question-and-answers column where some small businessman had written and asked about press releases. The answer was pretty good about the value of it, but then it said expect to pay $500 for a press release. That's ridiculous.

"I certainly wouldn't need to charge $500 for a one-page press release. I am going to lower my fee scale for small business, based on an hourly rate," he said.

"I will probably set a minimum rate of about $100 and have them get the information together for me. The owner of a company should be able to tell me pretty concisely what the product is, and it shouldn't be a very painful or timeconsuming process," Griffin said. …
